It’s no dream, a small-scale Tanzanian miner has become a millionaire overnight. This happened when he sold two raw Tanzanite stones recently. As per reports, these were the biggest Tanzanite stones ever found in the country.

Saniniu Laizer is the one who made a whopping amount of £2.4m ($3.4m) after selling stones of 15kg (33 lb) to the country’s mining ministry for the gemstones. Once, he got the confirmation on the total amount, Laizer said- “There will be a big party tomorrow,”

Laizer is a father to 30+ children, husband to 4 ladies, and is quite excited to transform his lifestyle with the overnight earned money. While showcasing his excitement, he said he will be slaughtering his one of the cows to celebrate it.

What is Tanzanite?

Tanzanite is one of the rarely found blue and violet mineral zoisites. It belongs to an epidote group. This stone is found in Tanzania, near the Mererani Hills mining area only.

Tanzanite is majorly used for jewellery making purposes and comes in an array of hues like- purple, blue, red, and green. Geologists predict that its origin may drain in the upcoming twenty years from now.

Saniniu Laizer weighed the costliest stones for 9.2kg and 5.8kg and sold them on Wednesday in a trading event. Before this, the biggest Tanzanite stone weighed 3.3kg.

On this, President John Magufuli called Mr. Laizer and congratulated him on the achievement. He said- “This is the benefit of small-scale miners and this proves that Tanzania is rich,”

When asked about the investment plans, Laizer revealed that he will be investing some amount on his community’s betterment in Simanjiro District, Manyara.

He said- “I want to build a shopping mall and a school. I want to build this school near my home. There are many poor people around here who can’t afford to take their children to school.”

“I am not educated, but I like things run in a professional way. So I would like my children to run the business professionally.”
