After a big hit like ‘Tanha Ji,’ the ace actor Ajay Devgan is all set to bring the golden years of Indian football on the big screen. The film ‘Maidaan’ is to be released on August 13, 2021. Maidaan features Ajay Devgan as Syed Abdul Rahim, the iconic football coach of the Indian football team.
Earlier, Maidaan was ready to come on the big screen in November, this year, but it was witnessing the current scenario; the movie release has been postponed to next year.
Ajay Devgan announced the movie release with the official banner and wrote- “2021 Independence week. An untold story that will make every Indian proud. August 13 mark the date,” Source: Instagram
Ajay Devgan will be seen portraying Syed Abdul Rahim, who served the Indian Football team from 1950 to 1963 as the manager and coach. Under his supervision, the Indian football team won gold in Asian Games 1962. In 1962, he took the Indian football team to the semi-finals of the Melbourne Olympics.
During an interview with PTI, Ajay Devgan said being a part of Maidan “has been very moving and emotional journey” for him. “It is a fabulous story, director Amit Sharma has done a great job. Times have changed, storytelling has changed. There are no deliberate commercial elements added to a film today, be it a song or the romantic angle. The movie stars Gajraj Rao, Priyamani, Rudranil Ghosh, and Ajay Devgan.
Maidan is the first-ever official collaboration of Ajay Devgan and Amit Sharma (Badhai Ho Director). The movie has been produced by Boney Kapoor, Arunava Joy Sengupta, Akash Chawla, and Zee Studios.
