The bizarre moment in Wednesday night’s vice-presidential debate has led the Biden-Harris campaign selling “Truth Over Flies” fly swatters. In the vice-presidential debate, a fly landed on Vice President Mike Pence’s head and remained there for almost two minutes as he continued to converse.
The Biden campaign was quick to grab this incident and start a fundraiser selling out “Truth Over Flies” fly swatters. More than 35,000 of the fly swatters were sold after the debate, and the campaign’s online store had listed fly swatter for $10, and by Thursday, the swatters were sold out.
During the debate, when Pence and Harris on Wednesday were discussing the issues that had limited the presidential campaign, in the meanwhile, the fly took over the moment when it landed on Pence’s head on social media.
In a few minutes of the incident, there was a twitter account for the fly, and users started sharing jokes and memes under the hashtag PenceFlyHead. Biden also took it up to tweet about it with an old picture with a swatter in hand about the campaign fundraising page link to buy the swatter to support the campaign.
The Joe Biden campaign’s merchandise director, Zach McNamara said in a statement that the moment went viral online, when the digital team came together on the fly to show that Biden-Harris will choose truth over lies, unity over division and science over fiction.
The campaign merchandise director also added that everything they have listed on the site like t-shirt, fly swatter, yard sign, all are made in America and union sourced merch. This activity is done to reflect ethical values and also to get people together during such debates.
Kerry Washington, the actress, also tweeted that she purchased the fly swatter and also appreciated the epic trolling by Biden campaign.
With Kamala Harris “I’m speaking” merchandise is also selling like hotcakes by Etsy sellers.
