On Monday, one of the prominent Indian Vocalists, Pandit Jasraj dies in New Jersey, the US due to cardiac arrest at the age of 90.
Pandit Jasraj was an award-winning vocalist who has been awarded- Padma Vibhushan (2000), Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for Hindustani Music- Vocal (1987), Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram.
Soon after the confirmation of Pandit Jasraj’s death, Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi tweeted- “The unfortunate demise of Pandit Jasraj Ji leaves a deep void in the Indian cultural sphere. Not only were his renditions outstanding, but he also made a mark as an exceptional mentor to several other vocalists. Condolences to his family and admirers worldwide. Om Shanti.” Source: Twitter.
Prime Minister Modi tweeted this message while sharing a few pictures of the award ceremony from the past.
Born in Hisar, Haryana, India, Pandit Jasraj had the experience of more than eight decades in music.
On this, Home Minister of India, Amit Shah said that Pandit Jasraj was the most incredible artist who cherished the Indian classical music world with his presence.
Amit Shah tweeted- “Sangeet Martand Pandit Jasraj Ji was an incredible artist who enriched Indian classical music with his magical voice. His demise feels like a personal loss. While recalling his commendable works, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, India, Mamata Banerjee said that Jasraj’s contribution to the Indian classical music was immense. She tweeted- “Saddened at the passing away of Padma Vibhushan and eminent vocalist representing the Mewati Gharana, Pandit Jasraj.
