The United States House of Representatives has ordered all staff members to wear masks as the nation’s death toll has crossed 1,50,000.
Pelosi continued and said if someone breaks the rule, s/he will be removed from the chamber immediately. On Wednesday, she announced this statement soon after witnessing a Texas Republican, Louie Gohmert, roaming without the mask and later tested positive.
Mrs Pelosi said- “The chair expects all members and staff to adhere to this requirement as a sign of respect for the health, safety, and wellbeing of others present in the chamber and surrounding areas,” Source: BBC.
Further, she said that she would inspect the matter personally and warned the House sergeant at Arms would throw out anyone seen without the mask. She stated- “failure to wear a mask as a serious breach of decorum”, Source: BBC.
As per a report released by GovTrack.us, around ten members of Congress including- seven Republicans and three Democrats have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Louie Gohmert, 66, was detected corona positive during White House travel protocol. On Wednesday, he was to fly with the President of the United States to Texas.
Gohmert said- “I can’t help but wonder if by keeping a mask on and keeping it in place, I might have put some germs – some virus – on to the mask and breathed it in,” Source: BBC.
Gohmert was one of the chamber members who used to roam on the House floor without masks. During the House session on Tuesday, Gohmert was seen removing his face mask frequently. Reports say that he did not wear the mask for around five-hours of hearing with Attorney General William Barr.
