‘Soorma Bhopali’ of Bollywood, Jagdeep Passed Away on Wednesday

From celebrities to fans, everyone mourns the iconic Bollywood actor, Jagdeep who was popular with the name of ‘Soorma Bhopali.’

Due to severe health issues, the actor passed away in the wee hours of Wednesday. The actor was 81. 

However, the actor had played a number of roles in several Bollywood movies, yet he was well-recognized for one of the exceptional characters named ‘Soorma Bhopali’ in ‘Sholay.’ His fans cannot forget a popular dialog “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahi hai!”

In ‘Sholay’ he played a timber merchant. It was a comedy character that left an irreplaceable impact on everyone’s mind. The late actor started his career as a child artist and showed his immense talent in several Bollywood movies, including- Do Bigah Zamin, Qurbani, Shahenshah, Andaz Apna Apna, Aar Paar, etc. He worked in the Indian entertainment industry for more than 6 decades. 

In 1988, Jagdeep tried his hand in directorship and directed the movie ‘Soorma Bhopali’ based on his own popular character ‘Soorma Bhopali’ from the movie ‘Sholay.’  

Within 3 months, the Bollywood industry has lost its 5th iconic actor after- Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Sushant Singh Rajput, Saroj Khan, and now Jagdeep Jaffrey. 

Soon after getting the news, the Bollywood stars started giving tribute to the late actor via their Instagram accounts.
