Victoria Azarenka on the rise for her third Grand Slam title at the US Open

Victoria Azarenka outplays Serena Williams 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 to move up to the third US Open final. Unranked Victoria Azarenka gave it back in the second set with 6-3 to level up the match against  Serena Williams and regained her chances to win in the semi-final. Serena won the first set 6-1 with complete ease while Azarenka had trouble to obtain her range at that point of time. First, Naomi Osaka advanced to her second US Open final with a score of 7-6 (1), 3-6, 6-3 over Jennifer Brady and now Victoria Azarenka.

The previous number one Victoria Azarenka thinks she holds a golden possibility to achieve her 7 years of wait for her third Grand Slam title at the US Open. The 31-year-old of Belarus reserved her spot in the last-16 on 6th Sept post defeating with ease Iga Swiatek (Poland) in straight sets. Azarenka’s victory sets up 6-4, 6-2  a long fourth-round match against Karolina Muchova.

Azarenka has been ready to take over this grand slam title, the way she has been moving the ladder. After the win, she said that this could not get any better of her which showed she was indeed content and confident to take over Serena Williams. 

The history between Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka

This is a rematch of US Open 2013 as well in 2012 finals when World Champion Serena won both of them. Williams, closing in her seventh U.S. Open championship and 24th Grand Slam singles trophy overall. She has always made it to the semi-finals for all 11 years of her appearances. A 1- match-winning beam and back in this Grand Slam semis 1st time in these 7 years is made the two-time Australia Open winner on cloud nine where William leads with 18-4 head to head against Azarenka.
